From Vine to Glass
The Van Biljon Winemaking Philosophy
Winemaking
At Van Biljon Wines, our philosophy is simple: let the land and the fruit speak through the wine. By blending tradition with modern innovation, we produce wines that are both powerful and refined, crafted with meticulous care from vine to bottle.
Our vineyards, planted with all five classic Bordeaux varieties—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot—are rooted in the fertile, decomposed granite soils of the Polkadraai Hills. The vineyard’s exposure to cooling sea breezes from False Bay allows the grapes to develop intense, concentrated flavors and vibrant acidity, resulting in wines of exceptional depth and character.
Renowned Chris Keet, as both winemaker and viticulturist, oversees every step of the process. His unparalleled expertise and passion for Bordeaux-style wines have defined the Van Biljon label. With his hands-on approach in both the vineyard and the cellar, Chris ensures that the vines are meticulously cared for, and the grapes are harvested at their peak, focusing on premium quality above all else.
From hand-picking only the finest fruit to employing classic fermentation techniques and aging in the best French oak barrels for up to 24 months, Van Biljon Wines vision is present in every bottle. The result is a red blend with a powerful structure, expressive fruit composition, and firm, polished tannins—all balanced by a lingering elegance. Each vintage embodies the unique terroir of Polkadraai and reflects Chris Keet’s dedication to producing wines that showcase balance, precision, and craftsmanship.
